Launched in January 2019, Western North Carolina LGBTQIA+ Archive is a cultural heritage repository for oral histories and physical artifacts related to queer history of the South. We are home to over 130 oral history interviews and a wide-range of cultural ephemera (e.g., PRIDE festival paraphernalia, travel scrapbooks, reader-written periodicals, T-shirts, buttons, and more). Our programming includes community training workshops, public history and humanities exhibitions, storytelling circles, and a historical walking tour in downtown Asheville. We welcome and train all volunteers with remote options available.
